If your battery dies, you get no sound, not even your magnetic pickups. When using an alkaline battery, 500 hours of battery life can be expected (350 hours more than any other acoustic system). This means you will have to change your battery twice a year.  Unplug your guitar when it's not in use to prevent unnecessary power consumption.
